Mr E L Jones, the founder, served his apprenticeship at the Cambrian News in Aberystwyth and on his return after active service in the Second World War he bought the existing print business in Ebens Lane, namely J C Roberts and Son, which had originally been established in the 1860s.
In 1957 the firm was transferred to its present site in North Road, which was previously used as a bakery by Queens Bakery.
Since, then he has seen the printing revolution reach its complete cycle. Hand-setting with individual letters was the norm at first. Then there was the linecasting of molten lead into type, followed by the new technology which has revolutionised the printing industry.Investment in machinery and plant has been done on a regular basis and as with any forward looking company - upgrading and updating is an accepted part of modern industry. The old technology is still retained but now is never used. The present proprietor "in my wisdom or otherwise" is loathe to thrown out any old printing relics.
The old wooden letters, used to produce the posters, are still held and one day might be displayed alongside those posters.
Many trays of old type can still be seen but space has had to be created for the new age of printing and the company offers a full graphic design and printing facility to its customers.
Magazines and newspapers are printed here (Gambo and Clebran among them) and a full range of stationery for businesses and all occasions, as well as various newsletters and all types of small printing jobs.
